Be Brave!

I recently carried out a brilliant consultant you visit with a very keen new manager. She has some fabulous ideas, and is putting some into action.
As always though when you're starting with a new team you have new relationships to make with staff parents and children, so no pressure! But I encouraged her to be brave. Staff ar more adaptable than we think. A bit like we often under estimate the abilities of the children we have.
Lunch time came and the manager said she was thinking of doing children serving themselves, but would wait till September " I don't want to bombard the staff with new things." So a delicious pasta bake turned up in trays. "Let's do it now?" I said with a wink.
The staff cottoned on quick. A member of staff quickly explained to the children how they would serve themselves lunch and the team supported the children. A staff comment that the children were calmer serving themselves spoke volumes to me. Some served themselves seconds, learning about portion sizes, self regulating nutritional needs.
So be brave. If you have an idea, go for it. If it doesn't work- ditch it, but more often than not you and your team have good ideas. Try them!
