My team and taking care of the SEND little people

As some of you who follow me will know, there’s been some changes on my team lately. In my two settings both my long term managers left. Everyone shuffled up the ladder, and I have to say I’m more than impressed with my new managers!

So I approached my newest manager to step up if she would like a managers meeting to share ideas. At this point I should say her work with SEND children is brilliant. She cares so much about helping them progress, keeps excellent records, and does the best transitions in the land (well I think so). However one of my managers that left was also an experienced Senco so we are a bit inexperienced on one site.
I digress! So when I asked about having a management meeting...I got a reply...”well actually” (good word) “one member of staff was asking about how to support a SEND child”...big breath!...”so I suggested we meet at the pub to go over supporting SEND children, and then two other staff members asked if they could join in...and do you want to come?”

WOW how proactive! So of we went to the pub, went over strategies, paper work, support professionals, criteria to ask for support and so much more! We covered so much ground, asked questions. My stars!

Sharing knowledge and expertise should be the norm in settings, and I’m proud to say my staff are so good at recognising and sharing each others strengths.

With SEND children it is particularly important that we meet their individual needs. After our chat ( with the social 2 glasses of wine!) we all feel up to date with latest procedures and how to best support our very special children!
