Relationships with parents and carers are very important in Early Years. It ensures you get a deeper knowledge of your children, especially your key children. Taking it a step further can be very easy.
After going to a Chatter Matters conference in Croydon a couple of years ago, we learnt about Home Learning Bags, or as I prefer to call them, Home Play Bags. A zip lock bag with a play resource and information sheet to send home with our children. We can make an impact by helping our children's families value play and it's part in child development.
Concerns when we started were mostly that they wouldn't come back. But these popular Bags pop back to us and get swapped regularly! Parents like them, children like them, and once they're set up it's very easy to run.
You can put most things in them to cover all dimensions of learning. We include simple instructions and ideas with information about the impact on children's development. What better way to share than to share play! Family fun strengthening setting and home links. Ofsted love them too! Just another bonus.
