Sorry Ofsted, I'm busy!

I had a wonderful day at Laura Henrys EY hub listening to some inspirational speakers where I was lucky enough to also speak on “Ofsted Outstanding and Beyond.” A good question at the end of my talk was where we should grade ourselves on the Ofsted SEF. Good question, I'm not sure whether I have the right answer.

I also said my SEF doesn't get updated very often. It's very time consuming, and I would rather spend time improving my setting, with my staff, with the children. That's got me thinking…Next time I log on, on each section I may put a caption. Something to the effect of “ if this section hasn't been updated lately I am still being reflective” I want something that's doesn't sound too pompous, still tells that I am being reflective and improving, but I don't always have the time to update the SEF.

While some might find this a useful document to reflect, I have to confess that although it's truthfully reflective at the time I write it, I don't use it. I wouldn't do anything differently because I write it. I update it when I think Ofsted are due to inspect us as they read it before their visit, but it has no impact on what we do or children's outcomes. It is one of the things I do just for Ofsted, and it takes so much time! What do you think?
